Floyd is Very Cool

I've been Lady Von Blogsalittle the past few days because frankly I am in the midst of the first of three hell weeks. Not good.But it's all right because I'm a virile woman.

The most recent blog-worthy event occured on Saturday night. Phantom and I went to an Aussie Floyd concert that was absolutely amazing. For the first half they played all of Darkside followed by an intermission, and selections from various other Pink Floyd albums. I absolutely love Darkside of the Moon so for me there was a certain level of intensity to hearing it live and having the sensory experiences of the lights, images, and the sounds resonating in my chest (not to mention the smell of weed that kept wafting through the crowd).

I first got into Darkside when I was sixteen. I was in a one act play, and one of the other actors was two years older than me and I thought he was the coolest. He was a really intelligent, politically aware kind of guy who was in a band. And he had a passion for music. He was the one that really introduced me to pink floyd. I remember at the after party thinking that the group of us really were just trying to recreate the 70s high school experience!

It took me awhile to actually get around to buying Darkside. I think it was during a post-Christmas HMV giftcertificate shopping spree with Phantom. And I KNOW that when I played it for him the first time he wasn't so sure he enjoyed it. It's exciting to be able to see the progression, because now he's the one that got us to the concert. I'm so glad we went. It was an intensely comforting experience to be there with him and have the music just pour over us. There's something about that album that's like listening to it makes you high. Neither of us smoked any pot, but we both sat there feeling heavy, as though the sound was weighing us down. I've been listening to it this week and trying to remind myself to Breathe.

Wow, it's always great to find someone who feels the same passion for Floyd that I do. Dark side is my absolute favorite album of all time, it's a work of art, Floyd is the soundtrack to the world. Lately people have been condemning me for being such a dark side fan 'man, everybody likes dark side, have you heard wish you were here' yeah, well everybody likes witsh you were here too, and the finl cut, and animals and the wall, because it's all genius, fuck off and let me have my preference. Dark side was my first, and will always be my, 'favorite album' "what's your favorite song on the album?" what? songs? if you ask me, it's all one big song, its all one 42 minute, 58 second piece of auditory art, and absolute timeless masterpiece belonging to the ages. I dont care what people say, even if classic rock is dead, floyd will always live on
