Chicks in Flicks (or Women and Representation as it’s known formally) was particularly productive tonight. All of the usual philosophy and complicated paradigms that hurt my brain were incredibly clear for some reason. Maybe it was the fact that tonight I was able to hand in my scene analysis essay and get that out of the way. That felt good. I enjoy the “watch a movie and then analyze it” business. And I also was able to write three letters during the breaks tonight. The goodness of the c...

Last night we had a drunken party of fun on the third floor and it was awesome. I haven’t been drunk once at school all year, and I wouldn’t say I got plastered last night, but I was at the happy fun point of being buzzed where you laugh loud, and sing loud, but are still able to keep guys from grabbing your ass. A good place to be as far as I’m concerned. The best part of the night was that our Vice President of the rez came up stairs and did like ten shots on an empty stomach within an ho...

This is the e-mail response I got from the Jesus Week coordinator after I clarified why I found the statement “Absolute Truth” offensive: "Thanks for replying so quickly. I think you are right that the idea of "Truth" can seem derogatory when one religion is contrasted with another. Oddly enough, the word "absolute" entirely modifies this connotation of truth; "absolute" means that something exists or is measured independently with NO relation to something else (Oxford Advanced Learner's D...

So I’ve mentioned my qualms with Jesus Week. I was not impressed by their slogan “Absolut Truth” and thus I took action. Besides my little t-shirt protest, I also sent an e-mail to the Multi-Faith Resource Centre, the Central Student’s Association, the CSA Human Rights office, the Human Rights and Equity office, and to all of the Christian organizations on campus. This was the e-mail I sent out: I am a first year student at Guelph and I am writing in regards to the slogan and symbol cho...

Jess, Tama and I keep seeing bunnies every time we go out a night. It’s all very strange. We see them. We try to lure them to us, and then we sing “Bunnies make the world go around” to the tune of the cabaret classic “money makes the world go around”. It hilariously entertaining.

World on a Plate was a success Tuesday night, but it also managed to pretty well knock me on my ass for the rest of the week. I got behind in work for the first time this semester and was just plain exhausted most of the time. But it was worth it. After serving up all of our latkes and kugel we all pretty much collapsed onto the floor. I got to that point of drunken tiredness where you just start laughing and yelling and making sad camel noises as loud as you possibly can. I haven’t been to...

Happy Groundhog day yesterday! I hear tell that the Ground hog saw it’s shadow, which means six more weeks of Winter. I think. But I can’t remember what the other option is. Is six more weeks a good thing? It doesn’t sound so bad to me. I seem to remember as a child hoping that the Groundhog would see it’s shadow, but maybe that’s just because I think it’s sad when your shadow is missing. Though I do remember making brown construction paper cut-outs of Groundhogs in my kindergarten class ...

Mo’ Mogo Mogo! So satisfying. So very satisfying. I am so incredibly happy to have my Survivor back on the air! Man oh man is it good! It is just so damned nice not to have to learn new characters and such. I learned tonight that my love for Rudy, Richard, Big Tom and Lex are still going strong, and my hatred for Boston Rob is burning with a fiery passion. I’ll take other Rob any day. I’m not really feeling the women all that much so far. I was really sad to see Tina go. Bah, so sw...

For those interested, Superbowl comes through spell check to be changed to "Superb Owl"

I am so tired. Oh man. I have no idea why. I got nine hours of sleep last night, got up at noon, had brunch at one, tried to do work and just slept from 2:30pm to 4pm. Not good. I have a lot of reading to do today, and a response to write for tomorrow. Everything right now is being timed accordingly to the end of the Superbowl when precious precious Survivor AllStar is to begin. Mmmmm Survivor. I just have to get everything done by then and life will be fine. But to maintain my sanity I...

Last night for the banner we went with "Oy! Jewish Culture!" Which is far funnier when said with a Jewish New York accent. Then we also made a little 'why we chose Jewish food' banner which added to the hilarity, but wasn't offensive. I dunno. I'm just pleased that it's done!

Tonight is a sad sad night. I have just been informed of the untimely death of Gary the snail. Gary you will be missed. I will never forget the meticulous way in which you sucked the algae from the walls of our tank, and how your tiny red eyes would swivel about. Goodbye sweet Gary.

I tried to do work. I really did. But instead I ended up watching Shakespeare in Love. Oh that movie hurts. It’s so beautiful and reference filled! And lovey! Oh why isn’t Phantom here now! But alas he is not, and I await my pizza alone. I’m glad I spent my afternoon movie watching and crocheting (though I had to stop because I’m developing a crochet claw). Now that it’s out of my system though I can focus on the banner I have to make tonight for World on a Plate. The entire rez is c...

So after a week sans blog, I’ve decided that since it’s twelve thirty on a Saturday and I can’t think of anything to do besides readings for next week, it’s about time for some blog. Phantom came to visit me yesterday afternoon through to this morning, which was awesome. I took him to this shop downtown where they sell an odd assortment of retro/used clothing, native crafts, and vinyl. We spent like an hour there so that he could go through as many records as possible. But I bought me a...
